Giddapahar Muscatel Gold is a classic Darjeeling Muscatel Tea. This year though the climate was favorable for Summer Flush but due to political agitation and demand of separate state Gorkhaland in the Darjeeling Hills the gardens remained closed. We tasted some fantastic teas from Giddapahar but only about 10% of quality Second Flush has been manufactured. We were able to procure this wonderful tea just before the gardens were closed.
This tea has all qualities which qualify for a Darjeeling Muscatel. The sweet yet complex flavour profile with just perfect astringency makes this perfect classic muscatel. The dry leaves are wiry, uncut in blackish coppery colour. The aroma is like roasted almonds and nuts mixed with a citrus mint like aroma. When brewed for 4 minutes we get amber coloured liquor with strong musky and roasted wood aroma. The taste is a true experience of muscatel. Sip starts with sweet citrus fermented grape flavour and by mid-sip we can feel the liquor getting little astringent and a woody roasted f;avour can be tasted. Sip ends smoothly giving the palate a musky coating.
If you wish to taste a genuine muscatel, do try this tea.
