Giddapahar Classic Muscatel Second Flush – 2018 is probably the first manufactured second flush 2018 tea from Giddapahar Tea Estate. Last year gardens from Darjeeling were unable to deliver Second Flush teas due to the strike called for a separate state of Gorkhaland. The bushes were in full bloom and were giving good flush but as the plucking was suspended the bushes went into forced hibernation. After 105 days the strikes opened but it was too late by then and the winter was setting in. Soon after about two rounds of plucking the winter break set in and once again it was time for rest for the bushes. Though we lost a good second flush last year but the forced rest given to the bushes was a boon in disguise for the bushes. The health of bushes has improved and they are flushing better and early.

Giddapahar consists of mainly chinary bushes and is renowned for producing some of the best muscatel tea. Some sections in the gardens are east facing which start yielding early. Also from the past two years many new updated types of machinery have been added in Giddapahar factory making it a perfect unit for tea manufacturing. The quality has substantially  improved and the teas speak for themselves.

This Classic Muscatel is a perfect well manufactured second flush tea. The leaves have the coppery black appearance with few greenish shades in between. The aroma is like baked nuts with a very sweet floral aroma. As soon as we smell the leaves we can understand that we are in for a treat. When brewed for 4 minutes, we get the perfect muscatel liquor. The taste is complex and thick. Its a mouthful of prominent flavors. The sip starts with the traditional musky sweet taste followed by more dense woody feel on the mid palate. The end is smooth with a brisk astringency making this a true second flush muscatel delight.

It is for sure a Flavourful summer tea which you should try.

  • DRY LEAVES: Fine rolled wiry blackish coppery leaves with few green.
  • LIQUOR: Bright tangerine colour with strong musky aroma.
  • INFUSION: Coppery dark brown crippled and semi open leaves with musky aroma,.

STEEPING INSTRUCTIONS:

Fresh water brought to 1st Boil (95C). Add 1 tea spoonful (2 grams) per cup of 150ml. Steep for 4 minutes. Strain to cup and sip as it cools. Second and third steep gives best result when steeped for full 5 minutes.
